Command + D

Design blogs, communities and online magazines feature heavily in my daily routine. Having recently discovered RSS feeds as an efficient method of keeping up to date with my favourite design sites, I now subscribe to over 40, with 889 unread posts currently awaiting my attention in my Google Reader homepage.

Admittedly, I don’t read every post every posted by all the sites I subscribe to, but there are several blogs I will always read. There’s a fairly eclectic mix:

  • The Dieline
Fantastic inspiring blog, featuring the forefront of product design. Features work that never fails to impress.
  • Noisy Decent Graphics
Popular web log from Ben Terret, co-found of successful London agency, The Design Conspiracy, whose studio I visited whilst at university. Ben is a talented writer who recently co-produced a blog based newspaper. Another site I never leave unread.
  • Andy Mangold
The blog of talented American design student, Andy Mangold has been a firm favourite of mine since I discovered his site when researching book binding. Andy’s hands-on approach to design, and clear talent, always inspires. He’s got a good taste for retro bicycles, too.
  • Brand New
Brands of the past updated to become brands of the future, and not always for the better, if you’re Pepsi. Interesting blog that clearly illustrates the emerging trends in brand design.
  • Inspire me, now!
Seemlingly random image-based blog that features inspirational imagery from around the globe, be it design, photograph or simply an observation.
  • Random Inspiration
Exactly as the title suggests, an image-based blog featuring visuals of anything and everything that insights inspiration, from print and motion to product design.
  • Death by Kerning
A typography blog featuring retro to modern and all the falls in between, without any sign of medium bias.
  • Abduzeedo’s Daily Inspiration
Images, images, images. A massive collection of Internet-imagery that should be consumed at least once a week.

And there we are. There are other blogs, of course. FormFortyFive and It’s Nice That are obvious choices, but everyone looks at those. If there any sites of similar ilk that you think are worth a look, please post suggestions in the comments.
